As our business continues to grow in the UK aerospace and defence market, we are looking for an experienced communications field service technician with knowledge of electronics/communication systems for military and commercial customers, primarily supporting naval platforms.
Your tasks
- Joining as the Senior Field Service Technician, you will provide support to our customers by completing installation, maintenance and defect rectification of the full range of Rohde and Schwarz Integrated Communications Systems including LOS and BLOS Software Defined Radios, Configuration Control Systems, Internal Communications, Main Broadcast, PABX and Alarm Systems. You will also be responsible for overseeing and managing the field service technician team. Working both as a member of a team and independently with a high degree of autonomy, you will be travelling to customer sites including Naval vessels within the UK and overseas. We'll provide you with a company vehicle, a mobile phone and a laptop with the network of support you need. The right candidate must have strong analytical and technical skills in electronics with an emphasis on fault-finding; this should be supported by a professional qualification via an approved apprenticeship scheme. As a Senior Field Services Technician, you will have a track record of performing in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably dealing with Complex Systems (Electrical and Electronic). You must be capable of resolving issues and problems. The ability to diagnose faults using basic programming/diagnostics software and tooling is essential. The Senior Field Service Technician role reports to the head of the UK Projects and Services group; there are opportunities to grow within the company by working towards becoming the Lead Technician responsible for a number of projects. Because the role involves travel and our customers are in the Defence Industry, you must hold a Full UK driving license and be eligible for UK SC and DV Security Clearance. Some of the duties include:
- Manage and oversee the work of team members
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with team members and other departments
- Provide guidance, training, and coaching to team members
- Conduct performance evaluations and identify areas for improvement
- Develop and implement strategies for achieving team objectives
- Ensure that team members comply with all company policies and procedures
- Foster a positive and productive work environment
- Install, maintain and repair legacy/delivered military communication systems.
- Create system test strategy development and validation, verification and test plan documentation in consultation with MCTA (STW & NWHT Documentation).
- Carry out the approval of subcontract test phases.
- Provide technical support to Sales and Marketing including generating information to support bids, technical presentations to customers, generation of product specifications and attendance at customer meetings.
