The R&S®ADD557SR direction finding and monitoring antenna system covers the frequency range from 20 MHz to 6 GHz (direction finding) and 20 MHz to 8.5 GHz (monitoring) with both vertical and horizontal polarization for fixed, mobile and transportable applications. A step forward for communications between European Armed Forces with the completion of ESSOR HDR waveform interoperability qualification testsThe ESSOR project’s next milestone will be to test the ESSOR HDRWF on a radio from Germany’s Rohde & Schwarz. Germany and Rohde & Schwarz joined the programme at the end of 2020. The European a4ESSOR consortium has successfully performed interoperability tests using the new ESSOR High Data Rate (ESSOR HDRWF) waveform. These tests are part of the ESSOR (European Secure Software defined Radio) project, launched at the end of 2017 by a4ESSOR and OCCAR (Organization Conjointe de Coopération en matière d'Armement) on behalf of Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland.

Rohde & Schwarz joins forces with Tsinghua University, Actenna Technology and others to conduct RIS technology trialsTo further exploit the huge potential of 5G, the wireless industry has continued to develop the standard up to Release 16, and development continues. But technology does not stand still, and even as 5G presses forward, a new generation of cellular technology is emerging. Cutting-edge 6G research is already underway at communications equipment manufacturers and research institutions, and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) is a major area of interest in 6G research. Rohde & Schwarz, with Tsinghua University and Actenna Technology, recently completed an evaluation and trial of RIS technology to comprehensively evaluate the effects and performance of RIS deployment.

New Rohde & Schwarz test system for automotive radar sensors electronically simulates even laterally moving objectsThe new R&S RTS radar test system from Rohde & Schwarz simulates driving scenarios for testing radar based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and radar sensors used in autonomously driving cars (AD) entirely over the air. The test solution consists of the new R&S AREG800A automotive radar echo generator as a backend and the R&S QAT100 antenna array as a frontend. Laterally moving objects, i.e. objects approaching from the side, are currently simulated by mechanically moving antennas. The R&S RTS replaces the mechanical movement by electronically switching individual antennas in the frontend on and off. Even objects moving laterally to the car at very high speed can be simulated reliably and reproducibly. The R&S RTS is able to simulate the radial velocity (Doppler shift) and the size (radar cross section) of objects at user configurable – including very small – ranges. Countless objects can be represented by cascading multiple R&S AREG800A backends. The R&S RTS moves tests currently performed on the road to the lab. This allows early error detection and a significant reduction in costs.
