Key facts

  • Enhances situational awareness to prevent call-sign confusion
  • Single direction finder at airport for directional information
  • Multiple direction finders for geolocation of calling aircraft
  • Calling aircraft are highlighted on a radar screen
  • Dedicated RDF clocks as a standalone solution for homing services

Improving overall safety and efficiency

A turnkey solution for automatically identifying calling aircraft on a radar screen

CERTIUM Locate with a single R&S® DF-ATC-S radio direction finder at an airport displays the approach of calling aircraft. It is mainly used for approach traffic to help air traffic controllers with quick and reliable aircraft identification. Upper area control uses multiple direction finders combined with a CERTIUM Locate server for precise geolocation of calling aircraft. This information is distributed to the air traffic controller radar displays. CERTIUM Locate is used by:

  • Small airports as a radar replacement system for homing services
  • Airports with radar systems for approach and aerodrome traffic
  • Large airports and air traffic service providers to geolocate calling aircraft for increased efficiency and security
  • Emergency and rescue centers to locate the source of emergency calls

Features & benefits

Automatic identification of calling aircraft

CERTIUM Locate highlights calling aircraft on a radar screen

The air traffic controller can easily detect and verify a call-sign ID on the radar screen. The direction of arrival or geolocation of an aircraft are calculated based on radio transmissions.

  • Helps air traffic controllers to automatically and quickly identify aircraft on a radar display
  • Increases situational awareness and minimizes call sign confusion
  • Detects very small aircraft or aircraft flying below radar and supports search and rescue efforts
  • Supports approach traffic handling with a single direction finder
