Rohde & Schwarz supports the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset
The introduction of new smartphones poses an ongoing challenge for network operators because they need to ensure ideal subscriber Quality of Experience (QoE) and avoid any disruption to their network performance. Usually, at the beginning of every new calendar year, the leading market players launch their most powerful end-user devices based on the newest chipsets, often synchronized with the main event in the telecommunication industry – the Mobile World Congress.
Rohde & Schwarz mobile network testing supports the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset that powers the newest flagship devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S23 models.
This enables mobile network operators and service providers to get a comprehensive view of the device and feature performance in their networks, already before the smartphone is commercially launched.
Gregor Tomic, Product Manager says, “Once again, we have managed to timely meet customers’ expectations, enabling them the verification of the latest flagship devices before the official market introduction. R&S®ROMES4, our universal mobile network testing software, is now upgraded to support mobile network engineering and troubleshooting with devices based on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This is a crucial task prior to releasing new flagship devices based on this chipset. There are many more procedures, technical aspects and parameters that have to be thoroughly tested and analyzed in the network engineering phase, to avoid potential end-user-centric issues or network degradation.”
In the R&S®ROMES4 print screen further below, a few key parameters are visualized:
- 3GPP overview, displaying a 5G EN-DC 4G/5G carrier aggregation connection, including details on throughput, used carrier bandwidth and physical downlink channel (both UL and DL)
- Layer 3 downlink and uplink decoding, offering valuable insights into the communication between the device and the network (supports troubleshooting purposes)
- LTE/5GNR RRM Mobility Analysis View, offering valuable insights into the mobility procedures
- UE capabilities View, displaying capabilities of the device to analyze network and device capabilities and settings
