Rohde & Schwarz security screening solutions
Meeting today’s security challenges
Modern security challenges require advanced and customizable technology solutions that can keep up with evolving threats.
That is why security operations around the world are making investments in high-performance millimeterwave (mmWave) imaging technology such as the R&S®QPS scanners. These solutions safeguard individuals and assets in today's ever-changing security landscape.
Screening people for concealed items, threats, weapons and contraband used to be limited to metal detection technology and labor intensive and invasive physical searches. Both remain widely used in security operations. However, neither method is able to deliver the performance needed in high value, high security operations.
This is where mmWave imaging comes in.
The public has been aware of mmWave screening since it came into use in airport security checkpoint screening applications. Today, mmWave imaging can be implemented for use cases beyond airport security to deliver fast, effective and user friendly screening. Solutions such as the R&S®QPS scanners automatically detect even the smallest concealed objects of interest. These scanners meet the high fidelity and high-volume security needed to address today’s challenges in applications such as:
- Airport security checkpoints
- Correctional facility security
- Critical infrastructure protection
- Loss prevention / asset protection in manufacturing and distribution facilities
- Data center security
- Customs and border security
- Event and VIP security
Extensively tested and evaluated by international regulators to validate their performance and safety, the R&S®QPS security scanners are installed at airports worldwide and have been certified by entities such as the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and others. They have also been used at high-profile events such as the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
Safe screening technology
mmWave imaging technology poses no health risks to security operators or scanned persons. Like mobile phones or the radar sensors used in modern vehicles, mmWave scanner technology uses non-ionizing radiation. This means that, unlike X-rays, mmWaves cannot penetrate the skin and are safe for pregnant women, children and those with medical implants.
High performance screening powered by AI
High resolution mmWave imaging technology can be adapted to meet specific mission needs and ConOps. In addition, the combination of mmWaves and powerful automated detection algorithms enables operators to tackle challenging custom applications like those in asset protection and loss prevention.
Powered by sophisticated AI-based algorithms, R&S®QPS technology automatically identifies both metallic and non-metallic items, such as:
- Plastics
- Ceramics
- Powders
- Liquids
- Organic materials
With their high-resolution capabilities, R&S®QPS scanners can also detect even the smallest concealed items, such as USB sticks or SD cards, banknotes and capsules.
