Electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) testing

E3 test requirements according to MIL-STD-464 and NATO AECTP-250/500

It is mission-critical for airborne, sea, space or ground based platforms that all subsystems function fail-safe under the influence of internal and external electromagnetic environments. MIL-STD-464C and NATO AECTP-250 establishes electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) interface requirements and verification criteria for these systems, including associated ordnance.

Your challenge

In order to be able to rule out possible hazardous effects or exceeding limit values, electromagnetic environmental effects (E3) need to be tested, e.g.

  • Induced levels at antenna ports of receivers or hull generated intermodulation interference (IMI)
  • RF emission control (EMCON), to prevent the location of a vessel, or to prevent that nation security information by emanations from classified information is compromised (TEMPEST)
  • Compliance with the criteria for the protection of personnel against the effect of electromagnetic radiation (HERP)
  • Effect of external electromagnetic environments on mission-critical sub-systems such as ordnance (HERO) or fuel (HERF), high intensity radiated fields (HIRF) up to several thousand V/m have to be generated
