Very high uncompromising output power

Large dynamic range, excellent level accuracy and level repeatability

Very high output power is often required in the microwave frequency range because the higher the frequency, the more attenuation. The R&S®SMA100B offers different output power stages to compensate for such losses. As a result, no downstream external amplifier is required. Exceptionally high output power levels (measured values)

  • Ultra high output power up to 38 dBm with the 6 GHz instrument
  • Over 30 dBm at 18 GHz and 28 dBm at 20 GHz with the 20 GHz instrument
  • Over 30 dBm between 20 GHz and 36 GHz with the 40 GHz instrument
  • Over 22 dBm between 40 GHz and 65 GHz with the 67 GHz instrument

UCOR (user correction)

Compensation of an external frequency response

DUTs are often connected to the signal generator via long cables or other frequency dependent components, making it very important to compensate for frequency response. The R&S®SMA100B provides a user correction (UCOR) function for this purpose. Together with an R&S®NRP power sensor, the UCOR values are automatically determined at the push of a button. A frequency response compensated RF signal is available at the new reference plane for UCOR.

Closed loop power control (CLPC)

Dynamic compensation of external frequency responses and drifts by the R&S®SMA100B with a connected R&S®NRP power sensor

The dynamic closed loop power control is a standard feature of the R&S®SMA100B. When combined with an R&S®NRP power sensor, the dynamic closed loop power control ensures highly accurate and stable input power to the DUT over time, regardless of unexpected signal chain losses or gains, unwanted power drifts in the setup or target level changes. The 1GP141 application note describes in great detail the closed loop power control function, the possible signals, suitable signal generator, R&S®NRP power sensors and what needs to be taken into account. Please read the application note before using the closed loop power control for the first time to avoid a possible damage to the DUT.

Uninterrupted level sweep with high dynamic range

When measuring gain transfer functions or output saturation points in amplifiers with an integrated automatic level control (ALC), the signal generator must provide a wide uninterrupted level sweep range. The R&S®SMA100B with the R&S®SMAB-K724  option provides the following:

  • Blank-free (uninterrupted) level sweep with exceptionally high dynamic range
  • High level linearity across the entire level sweep range

High-end ADC and DAC component testing

Measure the true performance of your device

Analog input bandwidth and required clock frequency increase with each new ADC generation. The increase in the effective number of bits also results in a larger signal-to-noise ratio. This means that extremely clean, high-frequency signals exceeding the DUT performance are required to test ADCs and DACs. The outstanding R&S®SMA100B performance is perfect for optimizing DUTs and making improvements technically feasible in the first place.

R&S®NRP power sensor connectivity

An R&S®NRP power sensor can be connected to the R&S®SMA100B

A DUT is rarely connected directly to the generator. Cables and other components are often between the generator and the DUT. This shifts the reference plane from the generator RF output to the DUT. An R&S®NRP power sensor can be connected to the R&S®SMB100B for extremely precise calibration (tenth of a dB) on the new reference plane.
