Automotive eCall testing
Comprehensive testing of automotive eCall functionality
eCall is an in-vehicle system (IVS) that, in the event of a serious accident, automatically transmits a minimum set of data (MSD) from the vehicle to the designated public safety answering point (PSAP), thereby reducing response times and minimizes fatalities.
Next generation (NG) eCall uses 4G/5G to enable fully-IP IMS-based communication, thereby allowing the circuit-switched legacy networks to be sunsetted. The data transfer in NG eCall uses different networks based on availability. In the future, non-terrestrial networks (NTN) will also be used for incidents in remote areas.
Using GNSS satellites, details such as the vehicle’s location and driving direction can be determined. This, combined with essential accident information - such as time of the incident, vehicle description and whether a vehicle rollover occurred - is sent to the PSAP.
Rohde & Schwarz’s comprehensive portfolio of test solutions from chipsets to end-to-end testing at vehicle level enable compliance with relevant eCall regulations.
