Rohde & Schwarz to equip German Navy's NH90 MRFH with secure communicationsRohde & Schwarz will equip the German Navy's NH90 Multi-Role Frigate Helicopter (MRFH), with SOVERON family airborne radios that include embedded COMSEC. Each aircraft is fitted with three VHF/UHF transceivers plus spares.
This includes observed time difference of arrival (OTDOA) based methods such as PRS as well as enhanced cell ID based positioning. The webinar offers insights on new test requirements for LTE-capable terminals and presents related test solutions developed by Rohde & Schwarz.

Solutions and Tipps for NR FR1 in TDD Downlink Mode
5G New Radio (NR) is a radio technology specified by 3GPP and was first released in 3GPP release 15. It is designed to target three use cases, i.e. enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), massive machine type communication (mMTC) and ultra-reliable low latency communication (URLLC). Among these three use cases, eMBB represents actually a further evolution of mobile broadband communication from LTE standard. According to the technical performance requirement defined by IMT-2020, by deploying 5G technology, peak data rates of eMBB application are expected to reach 20 Gbps in downlink (DL) and 10 Gbps in uplink (UL) direction, respectively. Typical use cases of eMBB are data hungry applications, such as high resolution 8K video streaming, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) etc.Verification of a 5G capable user equipment (UE) with respect to its achievable maximum data throughput under controllable and deterministic test conditions is an essential process during the design phase of the product. Performance centric verification through identification of the data throughput bottleneck, product benchmarking against a golden device enhances tremendously the user experience in the end.This document focuses on 5G NR frequency range 1 (FR1) with TDD duplex mode in E-UTRAN New-radio Dual Connectivity (ENDC) operating mode. As 5G NR physical layer offers a plethora of flexibility, the motivation here is to provide a kind of guideline of relevant parameter settings to stimulate device under test (DUT)'s max throughput capacity. The status quo of the R&S solutions at the time when the application note is created are described. Shown feature sets are constantly evolving, so the screenshots used and the parameters shown may change.

Rohde & Schwarz updates economy VNA portfolio with models up to 20 GHz and independant CW sources for low frequency modelsRohde & Schwarz launched four new R&S ZNL and R&S ZNLE vector network analyzers that can support up to 20 GHz of operation frequency. The economy VNAs now have the frequency range necessary to investigate even third harmonics for 5 GHz and 6 GHz band technologies, such as wireless LAN or mobile radio. The latest firmware release also includes a brand-new option that provides lower frequency R&S ZNL models with an internal CW signal generator.
The captured RF measurements are visualized with the R&S®ROMES4 drive test software that supports real-time network analysis, optimization and troubleshooting. R&S®ROMES4 is highly configurability allowing to customize the views according to the user’s needs.
This is specially in focus at this time of the year, where new devices based on the latest chipsets, such as Qualcomm, are coming to the market. We already support UE engineering of the latest x70 Qualcomm Modem, which comes in Samsung S23 series. A troubleshooting activity can be triggered by any indication of a localized performance degradation.
Calibrating the test equipment to minimize their impact was extensive and time-consuming, and a change in power level or frequency range often required a recalibration.

Time to take a closer look. One of the key features in LTE Release 9 is called evolved MBMS. MBMS stands for multimedia broadcast multicast services and enables broadcast and multicast services over a cellular network. Rohde & Schwarz and HEAD acoustics demonstrate test solution for 5G voice over NR (VoNR) voice serviceTogether with HEAD acoustics, Rohde & Schwarz has successfully verified voice services over 5G NR (VoNR). The test solution employs the latest generation of the R&S CMX500 wideband radio communication tester, combined with the labCORE hardware platform from HEAD acoustics and their ACQUA measurement and analysis software. This setup allows simulation of a voice connection in both 5G (VoNR) and 4G (VoLTE) networks. This enables manufacturers of 5G capable telecommunications devices to test the voice quality of their devices at an early stage before market introduction. The solution was presented at the Mobile World Congress in Shanghai in February 2021 for the first time.
