Question
When a test is started, the RFEX software generates the message
"Error while switching tri-axis probe". This also happens when the test
button in the menu Configuration => Hardware => Switch Unit is used.

This RFEX function can only check if the correct antenna is connected
and the driver is installed. The switching circuit itself cannot be
read back.
The following prerequisites have to be met to switch the antenna:
1. Antenna factors have been copied to the /RFEX/Data/Antennas directory
(either manually or using the "Copy from Hardlock" function in the RFEX menu
File => Antenna
2. The selected antenna files match the connected antenna. Antenna files are
selected in the menu Configuration => Hardware => Antenna. The details of the
antenna (x-axis is used as reference) can be checked via the menu File =>
Antenna. A data file with "typical example" does not work.
3. The correct switching method is selected.
4. If the USB converter is used, the driver must have been already installed
("USBIO“ directory on the RFEX CD). The converter appears in the
Windows Device Manager as "USB Serial Controller".
5. Switching through analyzers may require an adapter cable to match the
analyzer port (AUX PORT for FSL, USER PORT for e.g. ESPI). Please refer
to the TS-EMF user manual that is copied to \\RFEX\ Manuals\English\
during installation.
FSH4/FSH8 analyzers do not currently support switching through analyzers.
The probe still doesn’t switch?
6. Another reason for the error message could be broken pins on the
control connector (or, if used, on the adapter). In this case, the sensor needs
to be repaired by R&S Service. It is recommended that the sensor be modified
to the latest built standard (with quick release connector plus adaptor).
7. There are some special cases where a sensor has been modified to a later
built standard. In this case, the "Mod" entry may be required in the antenna
file for the x-axis. If it is not present, it can be added using any text editor.
Note:
Even without hardlock, it is possible to check antenna switching with
the test button in the menu Configuration => Hardware => Switch Unit.
