The R&S®CMW100 communications manufacturing test set with a supported bandwidth of 160 MHz is ready for testing initial 5G NR sub-6 GHz wireless devices in production. 3GPP's 5G NR will support frequency ranges up to 52.6 GHz, but initial 5G designs will use frequencies below 6 GHz with focus on 3.5 GHz.
This is expected to open up a wide range of use cases. For example, today’s XR applications record their surroundings in 3D using sensor technologies. With JCAS, an XR device could communicate with other devices, such as a mobile phone or car, over the cellular network. 6G will cover wider bandwidths, enabling resolutions on the millimeterwave (mmWave) scale.
We use the SMW IQ wideband noise source to generate a 600MHz wideband signal that is injected as a noise through the RT-ZF7 directional coupler test fixture into the DUT. The Media Converter from Technica is able to read out and report the SQI values for various levels of the noise injected into the 1000BASE-T1 communication link.

Qualcomm Technologies has validated the solution, and it is now supported by the Qualcomm® Development Acceleration Resource Toolkit (QDART) for Small Cells. Manufacturers of small cell infrastructure who integrate the Qualcomm® FSM100 5G RAN Platform in their products can expect that the R&S CMP200 fulfils all necessary hardware development and production test requirements.
Ultrawideband technology uses a very low energy level for short range communications, combining short signal pulses with a wide bandwidth. In addition to secure low power communication, a key use case for UWB is precise ranging up to the accuracy of a few centimeters. To enable such precision, it is important to calibrate and validate UWB devices, ideally based on over-the-air (OTA) measurements.
Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), one of the 5G use cases, targets wider bandwidths at frequencies in the mmWave range to achieve the promised Gbps experience. This requires new, high-resolution digital-to-analog converters (DACs) and analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), such as the recently launched ADC12DJ3200 from Texas Instruments.
the technical challenges of 5G mmWave (FR2), which opens up a new level of complexity in device development. mmWave frequencies imply measurement challenges that call for new testing approaches. 5G NR in the sub 6 GHz frequency range (FR1) can be seen as a natural evolution of LTE to achieve higher bandwidth and more flexibility on the physical layer in order to realize all the new and additional use

The video demonstrates the simultaneous measurement of 5G NR signals in the mmWave frequency range at 28 GHz and LTE in sub 6 GHz using a single network scanner in a 5G backpack for coverage and beamforming tests. Initial 5G deployments will use the 3GPP option 3 (non-standalone mode) that uses LTE as an anchor.
Automotive OABR Ethernet is now standardized as 100BASE-T1 in the IEEE. 100BASE-T1 is currently used in most new car developments as the new automotive standard. Analyzing bus communication, by connecting the bus to an oscilloscope measuring the bus voltage levels, is what developers use in traditional networks like CAN or LIN.
