The Australian subsidiary of Rohde & Schwarz has been operating since 1981. Its main office, engineering and integration facilities are in North Ryde, Sydney and the company also has offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, and Melbourne. With annual revenue in excess of $4b, the global German-based company develops and manufactures electronic goods for Defence, industry, infrastructure operators, academia and government customers worldwide. Locally, there is an emphasis on providing integrated systems and solutions to Defence however the subsidiary is also well known for its business in the areas of broadcast and media, civil air traffic control, RF test and measurement and wireless communications.

Professional Memberships
  • We reimburse yearly costs for membership of Engineers Australia (EA) for our engineering staff, and encourage them to apply for and attain listing on the Engineers Australia National Engineering Register (NER).
  • Depending on their role, we will also support and reimburse engineers to apply for and maintain state-based engineering registrations (BPEQ etc), where this is required for engineering signoff.
  • We also cover the costs of membership/registration (one per person) with professional bodies in disciplines such as HR, Finance, Marketing and Project Management.

Our Managing Director

Gareth Evans has been the Managing Director of Rohde & Schwarz Australia since February 2019. With over 20 years of experience in the high-tech intensive industries of defence, aerospace and transportation, Gareth has held various executive positions in engineering and business leadership at both global primes, medium-sized enterprises and start-ups and is experienced in 'stepping' into enterprises or programs to deliver enhanced outcomes. Gareth has led the company through significant projects including the mid-life upgrade of RAAF transportable air operations towers; Airservices Australia’s enterprise network modernisation program; and the Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boats, where Rohde & Schwarz is the communications systems integrator. Most recently Gareth has led the subsidiary's support to BAE Systems Maritime Australia for the Hunter Class Frigate Program.

Nick Waite has been Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of Rohde & Schwarz Australia since October 2022. Nick has 20+ years' experience in commercial and finance roles within defence, aerospace, manufacturing and industrial services environments. He has held senior leadership roles within the defence industry for the last 10+ years working for multi-national defence primes. Nick’s work has included ramping up the Australian operations for a major defence business, contract management and execution of complex development projects and, providing overall stewardship and strategic advice on financial, commercial, governance and supply chain matters to maximise shareholder value for the businesses he has worked in. He is highly skilled in pricing and estimating of major projects and has managed projects from concept through to delivery.

Victoria Patricks is the Director of HR & Corporate Services and has been at Rohde & Schwarz Australia since July 2022. Having worked across multiple jurisdictions including Australia, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the US, Victoria has gained an insight into the varied cultures that presents. She has held leadership positions across large matrix organisations as well we medium sized businesses across a number of industries such as engineering, tax advisory, financial services, legal and telecoms. As the company goes through a period of rapid expansion, Victoria is leading the people strategy and is passionate about creating an environment that allows everyone to thrive both personally and professionally.

Paul Barton, Director for Capability Delivery & Sustainment of Rohde & Schwarz Australia

Our Director of Capability, Delivery & Sustainment

Paul Barton is the Director for Capability Delivery & Sustainment and has over 30 years' experience in defence, aerospace and critical infrastructure. Paul has been leading the delivery and sustainment of integrated solutions at Rohde & Schwarz Australia for over 18 years. He has extensive experience in bids & proposals, delivery of complex programs and commercial management and has led the projects and engineering teams through significant programs including: Hobart Class DDG external communications system; Woomera Test Range integrated communications system (ICS); Airways New Zealand IPVCS; Airservices Australia’s enterprise network modernisation program; Evolved Cape Class Patrol Boats ICS; delivery, sustainment and mid-life upgrade of RAAF transportable air operations towers; and most recently the ICS for the Hunter Class Frigate Program. Paul also led the accreditation of the Engineering Management System to achieve AEO status and the transition to achieve RQO status.

Kieran McLaughlin is an accomplished professional with a career spanning 30 years across the Defence and Aviation Industry sectors. An ex-serviceman with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), he later transitioned into the Defence Materiel Organisation, developing experience and expertise in Major Capital Defence Acquisition Projects, for both the RAN and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Transitioning to defence industry in 2007, he has held various positions within the Business Development and Sales domain, operating on both the international and domestic fronts and gaining diverse experience with a particular focus and passion for strategy and business capture. A team builder and leader, Kieran has been entrusted with the critical responsibilities of overseeing the Strategy, Business Development and Sales functions within Rohde & Schwarz Australia.

Jing Wang, Director of Service & Operations of Rohde & Schwarz Australia

Our Director of Service & Operations

Jing Wang started as a service engineer at Rohde & Schwarz in 2011. With a strong technical background, she quickly developed the skills in other areas and assisted the team to expand the local service capabilities and solutions including traditional test and measurement equipment support, in country EMC chamber support, and broadcast field support. Recently she led the calibration lab to expand the ISO17025 NATA accreditation scope to 50GHz and to onsite calibration. As Service Manager she has reformed the service operation to achieve a 43 per cent increase in order income and become an independent profitable business unit. A result-driven and open-minded team leader, Jing is now entrusted to lead the Operations strategy in service deliveries, IT, and Facilities for Rohde & Schwarz Australia.

Do I require a security clearance for the role?
  • Though a security clearance is not mandatory for all positions, all offers of employment for certain positions are conditional on the candidate being able to meet Australian NV1 security clearance requirements which will form a part of the assessment criteria of the role. Please be aware that the Australian Government requires a comprehensive security and background check as part of their vetting process. NV1 security requirement details include Australian Citizenship and/or Permanent Residency. More information can be found here.
  • Roles requiring a security clearance also require you to be able to access ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) controlled material. Please ensure you meet the ITAR access requirements of the US State Department before applying to positions that require the aforementioned security clearance.

What will my first 30 days with the company look like?

All new employees will attend the company induction which is a great opportunity for you to understand our business. During this time you'll have the opportunity to meet people from across different teams in Australia and can start to build your internal network at our "Welcome Lunch". You will also participate in a regional induction that will take place virtually in your first three months. We give every new employee a Rohde & Schwarz goody bag featuring branded clothing apparel and useful accessories!

Depending on your role, you will then have a tailored induction which will include relevant technical training (in person/online) as well as a comprehensive 'on the job' training program. This level of support will continue through your career with Rohde & Schwarz.

Are there limitations on who can apply?
