NTN is a game changer in mobile communication, providing connectivity where terrestrial networks are unavailable. This demo showcases the first 5G test cases in FR1, where the CMX500 one-box signaling tester is connected to the device under test (DUT) to simulate specified test scenarios that integrate base stations and satellites. The R&S Contest software platform, with its intuitive GUI, offers various test scenarios and is capable of performing conformance tests (PCT, RRM, RF) as defined by 3GPP, as well as carrier acceptance test cases, all within a single user interface.

The FR3 frequency range (7.125 GHz to 24.25 GHz) is under discussion for future 6G wireless networks.

This demo demonstrates the feasibility of FR3 using the CMX500 one-box signaling tester (OBT) in a maximum throughput use case at 13 GHz, a frequency band within the proposed FR3 range, based on Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G mobile test platform (MTP).

The CMX500 OBT creates a signaling environment by transmitting an FR3 cell signal at 13 GHz, simulating real-world conditions, and conducts a comprehensive analysis to verify the device's ability to achieve maximum throughput, making the CMX500 OBT the ideal choice for FR3 research and development.

Customized 5G signals for FR3 and NTN testing

Testing early FR3 or NTN R&D application is becoming a reality.

In this setup we demonstrate a new option on our vector signal generator and vector signal analyzer for non-standardized 5G signal configurations. This allows to modify for example bandwidth or sub-carrier-spacing to non-standardized values using the R&S®SMW200A vector signal generator. The signals are then analyzed on the R&S®FSVA3000 spectrum analyzer.

UWB radar target simulation

The security and precise ranging capabilities of UWB technology mean it is already well established for automotive applications such as remote vehicle access. The next generation of UWB chipsets enable additional automotive use cases inside and outside vehicles such as Child Presence Detection (CPD). As these applications require short distance target simulation, with a signal bandwidth significantly larger than 500MHz, several technical challenges needed to be overcome to create an appropriate test solution.

The UWB radar target simulator demonstration setup we showed at MWC2025, believed to be the first of its kind, enables the performance of the Trimension NCJ29D6A chipset from market leaders NXP Semiconductors to be verified. It simulates an UWB radar target with a precise, variable target distance with maximum control and reproducibility and then measures the response.
