An intuitive RF ports alignment software for R&S®SMW200A multi-channel setups

With the R&S®RF Ports Alignment software together with the option R&S®SMW-K545, Rohde & Schwarz provides a standard and tailored solution for calibrating amplitude, time and phase of multi-channel SMW setups. The RF Port Alignment automatically collects the gathered correction data for the multi-channel setup using a connected vector network analyzer such as the R&S®ZNA or R&S®ZNB.
Thanks to an intuitive graphical user interface the test engineer is guided  through the calibration procedure step-by-step in a convenient way.
With a calibrated multi-channel setup, tests of advanced systems in wireless communication or of radar receivers can be performed straightforward.

Calibrate and simulate precise AoA

Alignment of amplitude, time and phase

For realistic AoA simulations, the RF ports not only have to be phase-locked to each other, but precise initial calibration with regard to frequency, amplitude and phase is also necessary. The R&S®RF Port Alignment Software supports this calibration of multi-port signal generator systems automatically. Without a calibration of the RF ports, it cannot be ensured that signal differences between the RF ports are covered by properties of the test system.

Calibration at the reference plane

Precise and repeatble multi-channel test setups

Since the AoA in the receiver is determined on the basis of the relative differences at the RF ports, the relative deviations of the RF ports to one another are also measured for the calibration. The ports alignment reference plane on the receiver serves as the calibration level. The deviations are automatically recorded, correction data is calculated and are loaded into the signal generators. Using the correction data, reproducible AoA are simulated.

Engineers often need to test the direction finding capabilities of radar warning receivers in the lab. A perfect solution is to use multiple coupled R&S®SMW200A vector signal generators that are phase-coherent and time-synchronized.
