Key facts

  • Wide frequency range
  • High sensitivity
  • Wide dynamic range
  • Compact design
  • Virtually constant antenna factor

Broadband active rod antenna for measuring electric field strength

The R&S®HFH2-Z6E active rod antenna measures the electric field strength in the LF, MF and HF ranges from 8.3 kHz to 30 MHz. It can be used for EMI measurements in line with various standards such as CISPR, MIL, FCC, ANSI and ETSI. The antenna is characterized by an almost frequency-independent antenna factor and very high sensitivity. In strong field environments, an attenuator can be activated to reduce distortion. An integrated RF detector with a threshold circuit reports antenna overload.

Features & benefits

Wide frequency range

Only one antenna needed for the entire frequency range

The R&S®HFH2-Z6E active rod antenna measures the electric field strength in the LF, MF and HF ranges from 8.3 kHz to 30 MHz. It can be used for EMI measurements in line with various standards such as CISPR, MIL, FCC, ANSI and ETSI.

High sensitivity

For measuring electric fields with very low field strength

The sophisticated antenna design of the R&S®HFH2-Z6E has very high sensitivity, allowing the antenna to measure electric fields with very low field strength (< –40 dB(μV/m/Hz) (meas.) for > 1 MHz to 30 MHz).

Wide dynamic range

For measuring electric fields with high or low field strength

The antenna offers a wide dynamic range from the lower limit field strength (< –40 dB (μV/m/Hz) (meas.) for > 1 MHz to 30 MHz) to the upper limit field strength (typ. 125 dB(μV/m)) in normal mode. In strong field environments, an attenuator can be activated to reduce distortion.

Virtually constant antenna factor

For precise measurement results

The antenna consists of a vertical rod connected to an active impedance converter. The converter matches the high input impedance of the rod to 50 Ω so that the antenna factor remains nearly constant in the entire frequency range. This provides a constant output signal in constant electric fields.
