Sivers Semiconductors and Rohde & Schwarz collaborate on testing 5G RF transceivers up to 71 GHzAs 5G networks are being rolled out globally, the evolution of the 5G NR standard continues. With Release 17, 3GPP will extend the frequency support of 5G NR mmWave bands into the unlicensed spectrum up to 71 GHz, a frequency band traditionally used by non-cellular standards like IEEE 802.11ad and 11ay. To address new testing challenges related to this bandwidth extension and to evaluate the performance of the latest generation RF transceiver chipsets, Rohde & Schwarz and Sivers Semiconductors teamed up to test RF transceivers for 5G NR up to 71 GHz.

R&S®AdVISE visual inspection software automates the process of visually monitoring equipment under test (EUT) during a test sequence. This eliminates errors due to human inattention, ensures reproducible results and simplifies test documentation. A typical application is EMS testing with R&S®ELEKTRA EMC automation software.
The R&S®ESR is an EMI test receiver for the frequency range from 10 Hz to 26.5 GHz and complies with the CISPR 16-1-1 standard. The receiver measures electromagnetic disturbances with the conventional stepped frequency scan or – at an extremely high speed – with an FFT based time domain scan.

Demystifying EMC conference goes virtual in 2021The industry event, hosted by Rohde & Schwarz and renowned as the largest EMC event in the UK, will be open to participants globally for the first time in its seven-year history in 2021. From the virtual floors of a digitized Rohde & Schwarz headquarters, it will cover topics including design, test and the regulatory compliance.
This requires a powerful test instrument capable to test all important measurement parameters such as spectrum, power, and EMV of the 5G-V2X sidelink signal at 5.9 GHz. Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI demonstrate 5G NR high-speed downlink IP data throughput using 8x FR1 and FR2 component carriersEnhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) is the use case of 5G NR which supports the ever-increasing end user data rate and system capacity, as mobile devices integrate more and more internet-based services and applications. At MWC21, T&M specialists Rohde & Schwarz and VIAVI Solutions will demonstrate a 5G NR eMBB end-to-end test scenario in 5G SA mode (standalone 5G) exceeding for the first time a high-speed data throughput of 7.5 Gbps. The demonstration paves the way for upcoming data rates up to 10 Gbps. This high throughput rate means mobile subscribers will soon benefit from 4K video streams or augmented reality.

Qualcomm Technologies has validated the solution, and it is now supported by the Qualcomm® Development Acceleration Resource Toolkit (QDART) for Small Cells. Manufacturers of small cell infrastructure who integrate the Qualcomm® FSM100 5G RAN Platform in their products can expect that the R&S CMP200 fulfils all necessary hardware development and production test requirements.

New Rohde & Schwarz test system for automotive radar sensors electronically simulates even laterally moving objectsThe new R&S RTS radar test system from Rohde & Schwarz simulates driving scenarios for testing radar based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and radar sensors used in autonomously driving cars (AD) entirely over the air. The test solution consists of the new R&S AREG800A automotive radar echo generator as a backend and the R&S QAT100 antenna array as a frontend. Laterally moving objects, i.e. objects approaching from the side, are currently simulated by mechanically moving antennas. The R&S RTS replaces the mechanical movement by electronically switching individual antennas in the frontend on and off. Even objects moving laterally to the car at very high speed can be simulated reliably and reproducibly. The R&S RTS is able to simulate the radial velocity (Doppler shift) and the size (radar cross section) of objects at user configurable – including very small – ranges. Countless objects can be represented by cascading multiple R&S AREG800A backends. The R&S RTS moves tests currently performed on the road to the lab. This allows early error detection and a significant reduction in costs.
