Automotive Ethernet Trigger & Decode

The R&S®RTP and R&S®RTO oscilloscope supports serial triggering and decoding of 100BASE-T1 or BroadR-Reach and 1000BASE-T1 Automotive Ethernet standards. Efficiently trigger on frame start, Idle frames, MAC frames including destination & source address, frame types and on various error conditions. The MXO 4 series support 10BASE-T1S and MXO 5 series support both 10BASE-T1S and 100BASE-T1 decoding.

Starting from the Apps button or menu, it only takes a few steps to configure the automotive ethernet decoder. Once the appropriate channels are selected and the correct levels are set, decoding begins immediately.

Simultaneous decoding of bi-directional Ethernet streams

Easy access via R&S®RT-ZF5 test fixture

The R&S®RT-ZF5 test fixture allows users to decode both the forward and reverse data streams of either 100BASE-T1 or 1000BASE-T1 networks at the same time. Users can compensate the directivity of the fixture to obtain accurate decoding results.

Decode all important layers

Display of ternary symbols, scrambled, descrambled or reversed bits

The decoded Ethernet data can be analysed via various decode layers. For example, setting the oscilloscope to display ternary symbols to directly correlate the decoding to the captured analog waveform. Further analysis such as scrambled or descrambled bits are also possible.

Colour-coded display

Distinguish every Ethernet frame via simple colour coding

Colour-coding of the decoded Ethernet frames makes analysis of the captured data quick and easy. On top of that, all decoded data are perfectly overlaid in time with the captured analog waveform. Address and data content can be displayed in hex, bin or ASCII formats. The protocol details can additionally be displayed in a concise table. With the R&S®SmartGrid’s flexible screen setup, the best overview of the decoded data can be achieved in seconds.

Strong trigger capability

Trigger on frame start, idle frame, MAC frame or address and various error conditions

The protocol-aware trigger lets you reliably isolate specific protocol-based events and errors. Thanks to the high acquisition rates of R&S oscilloscopes, it makes them ideal for finding errors quickly and triggering on specific protocol fields such as idle frames, MAC address or data and various errors.

Search and navigate

Powerful search and navigation capabilities on recorded acquisitions

Comprehensive search functions simplify the analysis of long signal sequences. Users can search the decoded data based on different criteria, such as a specific MAC address or a certain error condition. All detected events are shown in a table with timestamps. Applying a zoom function over the decode data to move through this table makes navigating through the events extremely easy.
