Key Facts

  • High gain with low noise figure of  ≤4.5 dB
  • Bias unit eliminates the need for a power adapter at test sites
  • Hardened to withstand unintended pulses and ESD at the R&S®ESCU input
  • Compact and easy to mount on the R&S®UAS antenna stand

The evolution of preamplifiers

R&S®ESCU enhanced signal conditioning units cover the frequency range from 100 MHz to 18 GHz. The high performance preamplifier improves overall system sensitivity and is ideal for testing low-power signals.  A bias unit in the control room to power the R&S®ESCU significantly reduces potential power supply noise at test sites. Since preamplifiers are highly susceptible to ESD, the R&S®ESCU input is hardened to withstand high discharge levels for increased survivability, especially when connected to an antenna.

Features & benefits

Low noise figure suitable for EMI and RSE testing

R&S®ESCU preamplifiers lower the overall measurement noise floor by more than 10 dB for the limit lines specified in the EMI measurement standards .

Removal of potential noise emitter at test site

The R&S®ESCU comes with a bias unit that puts the power adapter outside the anechoic chamber. The bias unit carries DC power over an RF cable connected directly to the preamplifier.

Designed to withstand pulses, ESD

Low noise amplifiers or preamplifiers clearly reveal weak signals of interest. However, preamplifiers are extremely sensitive and susceptible to sudden incoming power surges. The R&S®ESCU helps counter the occasional pulse signals from equipment under test (EUT) during EMI testing. The R&S®ESCU input is hardened to withstand an ESD of over 8 KV.
