Inner strengths that outperform

Exceptional performance for next generation radiomonitoring

The growing demand for wireless network connectivity calls for new, more complex transmission standards aimed at optimizing spectral efficiency and exploring ever higher frequency ranges with more available bandwidth. The spectrum is becoming increasingly dense and channel bandwidths of 320 MHz (Wi-Fi 7), 400 MHz (5G FR2) and well beyond (6G) will be used. This ongoing trend makes it increasingly difficult for regulatory authorities to verify proper spectrum usage in these wideband and highly dynamic spectrum environments.

With its future-proof technical performance specifications, the innovative R&S®ESMW ultrawideband monitoring receiver is the perfect solution for next generation fixed and mobile radiomonitoring stations tasked with spectrum monitoring and interference hunting. The receiver’s modular option structure with multiple hardware and software extensions gives customers the flexibility to choose the right solution for their applications.

Reliable

Masters any interference scenario in dense signal environments with exceptional RF performance

Outstanding dynamic range for dense spectrum environments

A high dynamic range is crucial when measuring weak signals in the presence of high-power transmitters in a crowded spectrum. The R&S®ESMW has been optimized to achieve the highest dynamic range by employing state-of-the-art analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), high-quality active components, and sophisticated preselection filtering. It provides outstanding RF performance for reliable measurements in the most challenging spectrum environments.

Fully ITU-compliant spectrum monitoring

The performance of the R&S®ESMW is fully in line with and even exceeds ITU recommendations. Not only are the hardware specifications compliant with the ITU Handbook on spectrum monitoring and verified using ITU-R measurement procedures, but also signal parameter measurements such as analog modulation parameters or the signal bandwidth are in line with ITU recommendations.

Visionary

Designed for future needs

Enhanced spectrum monitoring up to 40 GHz
The R&S®ESMW provides signal monitoring in the mmWave range up to 40 GHz, making it an ideal solution for reliable spectrum monitoring in 5G and future 6G networks, microwave links, fixed wireless access, and satellite links. The 40 GHz frequency range extension is possible through either an optional internal microwave module or by means of the external R&S®MC40 Microwave converter, which can be positioned near the antenna to minimize cable attenuation.

Seamless real-time capture of up to 2 GHz wide signals
With its incredibly large real-time bandwidth of up to 2 GHz, the R&S®ESMW can instantaneously and continuously capture wideband signals with up to 2 GHz bandwidth without acquisition gaps. Therefore, signals in current and future communication standards with bandwidths of up to 160 MHz in Wi-Fi 6, up to 320 MHz in Wi-Fi 7, up to 400 MHz in the 5G FR2 range and potentially up to 2 GHz in future 6G networks can be directly measured, monitored and analysed in real-time - there is no scanning required. Selectable resolution bandwidths provide the necessary sensitivity to even detect weak signals at such large real-time bandwidths. This makes the R&S®ESMW a future-proof solution for effective and time-efficient monitoring missions.

Easily upgradable for future demands
The R&S®ESMW features a modular option structure with multiple hardware and software options, which range from internal frequency range and real-time bandwidth extensions to dedicated measurement functions. Therefore, the R&S®ESMW can be tailored to current monitoring tasks and easily upgraded for future monitoring requirements.

Efficient

Extremely fast scan speeds for efficient signal detection

Thanks to its large real-time bandwidth of up to 2 GHz, the R&S®ESMW enables extremely fast panorama scan speeds of up to 2.6 THz/s, which increases the probability of intercept (POI) of short-time or sporadic emissions over a wide spectrum range. In 2 GHz real-time operation, short-time signals with a minimal signal duration for 100 % POI of 150 ns can be detected.
